ABIC was established in [[2003]] and represents early stage researchers as [[doctorate]] students, and [[Postdoctoral researcher|post-doc]] fellows as well researchers who are not included is this two groups but are grant-holders. This association surged from a group of grant-holders researchers who gathered in [[2001]] to write a document [http://www.bolseiros.org/pdfs/caderno.pdf] to be present to all the stakeholders involved with research in [[Portugal]]. This group called “plataforma de bolseiros de investigação científica (PBIC)” evolved in ABIC. ABIC main actions have been in the following areas: i) to alert the funding agencies in [[Portugal]] such as FCT [http://www.fct.mctes.pt (www.fct.mctes.pt)] that the grant-holders researchers should have [[Social security|social benefits]] and pension schemes as recommended at [[European Research Charter|The European Charter for Researchers]] [http://europa.eu.int/eracareers/pdf/am509774CEE_EN_E4.pdf]; ii) to urge the governments to open the positions available at the [[public sector]] and not use grant-holders researchers as cheap labour in [[Portugal]]; iii) to persuade the governments to deliver [[policies]] which are able to create scientific jobs, both at [[Public sector|public]] and [[private sector]]. ABIC is member of [[Eurodoc]], the European [[federation]] of national organisations of young researcher. ABIC is member as well of [[World Federation of Scientific Workers]] [http://www.fmts-wfsw.org/sommaire_en.php3 (website)] The most active ABIC on-line resource is the bulletin board [http://forum.bolseiros.org/ (forum.bolseiros.org)] written in Portuguese but,in general, young Portuguese read and write English fluently. == Portuguese Local Sections == * Young researchers [[Aveiro University]] [http://nbiua.web.ua.pt/] * Young researchers [[Minho University]] [http://online.uminho.pt/academia/abic/ ] * Young researchers [[Oeiras]] [http://bolseiros.itqb.unl.pt/] * Young researchers [[Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa|FCT-UNL]] [http://moodle.fct.unl.pt/course/view.php?id=1185/] * Young researchers [[Porto]] [http://porto.abic-online.org/] ==See also== *[[Austrian National Union of Students]] - Equivalent organisation in [[Austria]]. *[[Confédération des jeunes chercheurs]] - Equivalent organisation in [[France]]. *[[National Postgraduate Committee]] - Equivalent organisation in the [[United Kingdom]]. *[[Thesis (representative body)|Thesis]] - Equivalent organisation in [[Germany]].
