Qualification to the competition is to clubs from AFC-affiliated countries which fall into the AFC's 'developing nations' category as laid out in their 'Vision Asia' document . Countries which are 'mature' nations are entered into the AFC Champions League, and countries which are 'emerging' nations are entered into the AFC President's Cup. The 'developing nations' are the fourteen 'next-best' countries which lie outside the top-14 countries in the AFC region which send their club sides to the more prestigious AFC Champions League. Thus the two competitions are not interlinked as the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Cup in Europe, and Champions League losers do not compete in the Cup. ==Participating nations and regions== Clubs from the following 15 football associations take part in the competition. Italics are relagated or excluded. {|width="25"| |valign=”top”| West Asia *BHR *JOR* *SYR* *OMA *QAT* *KUW* *IRQ *LIB *YEM |width="25"| |valign="top"| Central Asia *UZB* *TKM |width="25"| |valign="top"| South Asia *BAN *MDV *IND* |width="25"| |valign="top"| East Asia *HKG *PRK |width="25"| |valign="top"| Southeast Asia *MAS *MYA *SIN* *VIE* *THA* *IDN* |} * Vietnam and Thailand lose ration for AUS in AFC Champions League. Each country sends two teams representing the domestic league winners and the cup winners. The participating teams are split into six groups of three or four, with each team playing the others in the group in a round robin format. The winners of each group and two best runner-up enter into the quarter finals. The quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals are played as a knockout competition. ==Results== {| border=1 style="border-collapse:collapse; font-size:90%; text-align:center;" cellpadding=3 cellspacing=0 width=100% |- bgcolor=#C1D8FF !rowspan=2 width=10%|Season !width=1% rowspan=99 bgcolor=ffffff| !colspan=3|Final !width=1% rowspan=99 bgcolor=ffffff| !colspan=2 rowspan=2 width=30%|Semifinalists (No 3rd place match) |- bgcolor=#EFEFEF !width=15%|Champions !width=11%|Score !width=15%|Runner-up |- bgcolor=#F5FAFF |2008
Details | |1st leg: -
2nd leg: - | | | |- bgcolor=#F5FAFF |2007
Details |Shabab Al Ordon Al Qadisiya
Jordan |1st leg: 1-0
2nd leg: 1-1 |Al-Faisaly Amman
Jordan |Al Wihdat Amman
Jordan |Al-Nejmeh Beirut
Lebanon |- align=center bgcolor=#D0E7FF |2006
Details |Al-Faisaly Amman
Jordan |1st leg: 3-0
2nd leg: 2-4 |Muharraq Club
Bahrain |Al Wihdat Amman
Jordan |Al-Nejmeh Beirut
Lebanon |- bgcolor=#F5FAFF |2005
Details |Al-Faisaly Amman
Jordan |1st leg: 1-0
2nd leg: 3-2 |Al-Nejmeh Beirut
Lebanon | New Radiant
Maldives | Xiangxue Sun Hei
Hong Kong |- bgcolor=#D0E7FF |2004
Details |Al-Jaish Damascus
Syria |1st leg: 2-3
2nd leg: 1-0
(away goals win) | Al-Wahda Damascus
Syria | Geylang United
Singapore |Home United
Singapore |} ==Performance by clubs== {| class="wikitable" style="text-align: center;" !#||Clubs||Winners||Runners-up||Semifinalist |- |1||align=left| Jordan Al-Faisaly Amman |2 |1 |0 |- |rowspan=2|2||align=left| Jordan Shabab Al Ordon Al Qadisiya |1 |0 |0 |- |align=left| Syria Al-Jaish Damascus |1 |0 |0 |- |rowspan=3|4||align=left| Lebanon Al-Nejmeh Beirut |0 |1 |2 |- |align=left| Bahrain Muharraq Club |0 |1 |0 |- |align=left| Syria Al-Wahda Damascus |0 |1 |0 |- |7||align=left| Jordan Al Wihdat Amman |0 |0 |2 |- |rowspan=4|8||align=left| Singapore Geylang United FC |0 |0 |1 |- |align=left| Singapore Home United FC |0 |0 |1 |- |align=left| Maldives New Radiant |0 |0 |1 |- |align=left| Hong Kong Xiangxue Sun Hei |0 |0 |1 |- |} ==Performance by nations== {| class="wikitable" style="text-align: center;" !#||Nation||Winners||Runners-up||Semifinalist |- |1||align=left|JOR |3 |1 |2 |- |2||align=left|SYR |1 |1 |0 |- |3||align=left|LIB |0 |1 |2 |- |4||align=left|BHR |0 |1 |0 |- |5||align=left|SIN |0 |0 |2 |- |rowspan=2|6||align=left|HKG |0 |0 |1 |- |align=left|MDV |0 |0 |1 |} ===By Clubs' Statistics=== * Thai Clubs at The AFC Cup ==See also== *International club competition records ==References== reflist ==External links== * AFC Official Web Site * RSSSF - AFC Cup fb start AFC Cup Seasons AFC men's competitions fb end ar:كأس الاتحاد الآسيوي de:AFC Cup es:Copa AFC fr:Coupe de l'AFC it:Coppa dell'AFC nl:AFC Cup ja:AFCカップ pt:Copa dos Presidentes da AFC th:เอเอฟซีคัพ zh:亚洲足联杯
