The Eastern Cape dialect may have resulted from contact between Dutch and English settlers and the Xhosa tribes of the South and Eastern Cape regions of South Africa. The dialect was named before the establishment of the current Eastern Cape province of South Africa, and should not be regarded as the dialect of that province. The term ''Oosgrensafrikaans'' ("Afrikaans of the Eastern border") may also be used to refer to the Eastern Cape dialect or to some other historical language of that region. ==See also== *[[Oorlans]] *[[Afrikaans (Western Cape dialect)]] *[[Afrikaans (Northern Cape dialect)]] [[Category:Afrikaans]] [[Category:Languages of South Africa]] [[af:Oosgrens-Afrikaans]] [[nl:Oostgrens-Afrikaans]] [[no:Østgrense-afrikaans]]
