== History ==
The airline was originally formed as New Hebrides Airways and changed its name in [[1981]] to Air Vanuatu, after independence from the [[United Kingdom|UK]] and [[France]] in [[1980]]. It has been fully owned by the Government of Vanuatu since December [[1987]]. [[Vanair]] was acquired by Air Vanuatu in September [[2004]].<ref name="FI"/> At one point, the airline used [[Boeing 727]] jets.
Air Vanuatu has just celebrated 20 years of serving Vanuatu (December 2007). Air Vanuatu now operates a Boeing 737-800 aircraft on its International routes.
