One of the tragic legacies of conflicts in Central America in the decade of the 1980's was a large number of unmapped [[land mines]], especially along the [[Nicaraguan]]-El Salvadorian border.
To bring attention to the problem, and to assist in the rehabilitation of amputees, several international "Amputee Soccer Championships" were organized in this period. This [[postage stamp]] ([[El Salvador]] #C546) commemorates the Salvadorian victory in the September 1989 fourth such championship.
