He developed the field of [[sociomimetics]], the mirroring of [[social behaviour]] patterns in electronic [[information systems]], as a technique to enhance their effectiveness. Armstrong graduated from [[St John's College, Cambridge]] in [[1993]] with a degree in Social and Political Sciences. His work on sociomimetics commenced with a year-long ethnographic study in the [[Isles of Scilly]] during [[1999]] investigating the social behaviours involved in distributing information through the island communities. During this period [[Michael Young]] became Armstrong's mentor, a role which continued until Young's death in [[2002]]. Small-scale prototyping during [[2001]] and [[2002]] led to the formation in [[2003]] of Trampoline Systems Limited, which is developing large-scale information management applications based on sociomimetic principles. == References == * [http://www.wired.com/news/technology/0,70474-0.html?tw=wn_index_1 Wired Magazine article on Charles Armstrong] * [http://blogs.nature.com/wp/nascent/2006/05/charles_armstrong_visits_natur.html Nature Magazine blog article on Charles Armstrong] * [http://www.bioteams.com/2006/04/25/recovering_lost_group.html Bioteams article on Charles Armstrong] * [http://conferences.oreillynet.com/cs/et2006/view/e_sess/7793 Paper delivered by Charles Armstrong to the 2006 O'Reilly Emerging Technology Conference] == External links == * [http://www.trampolinesystems.com Trampoline Systems] * [http://www.sse.org.uk The School for Social Entrepreneurs] {{DEFAULTSORT:Armstrong, Charles}} [[Category:Ethnographers]] [[Category:Technologists]] [[Category:Alumni of St John's College, Cambridge]] [[Category:1971 births]] [[Category:Living people]] {{scientist-stub}}
