The five founding members are Dorothy Cohen Schwartzman, Ida Bienstock Landau, Minna Goldsmith Mahler, Eva Effron Robin, and Sylvia Steierman Cohn. Delta Phi Epsilon' slogan is dedication, pride, excellence. Delta Phi Epsilon's flower is the Lovely Purple Iris, and its international mascot is the Unicorn. The sisterhood badge is an equilateral triangle in gold surrounded by 21 pearls. The sorority open motto is "Esse Quam Videri" (in Latin: "To be rather than seem to be"). Delta Phi Epsilon is one of 26 social sororities that form the National Panhellenic Conference. Delta Phi Epsilon's Mission is to develop a social consciousness and a commitment to think and act for the greater good. ==Philanthropies== Delta Phi Epsilon has three international philanthropies: the Delta Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation; the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation; and the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders. The Delta Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation helps to give members and their children the opportunity to further their education through scholarships, grants, and loans. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, helps benefit those with the genetic disease Cystic fibrosis through research, grants, and awareness campaigns. Tate's Totes are bags filled with various items that make an extended hospital stay more comfortable for children with cystic fibrosis (CF) and their parents. Tate's Totes are given to local Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) Care Centers to distribute to patients. At Convention 2006, Delta Phi Epsilon announced its official partnership with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. This official partnership cements a relationship that spans the last 48 years, in which Delta Phi Epsilon has raised more than one million dollars for the fight to cure CF. To support this partnership and build service in our sisterhood, all chapters are encouraged to participate in the Tate's Totes philanthropy project. The National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD) was created to help alleviate problems of anorexia and other eating disorders. Delta Phi Epsilon sponsors an annual candlelight vigil to increase awareness of eating disorders and provide information to family and friends of sufferers. ==Notable alumnae== *Stephanie Abrams (Delta Kappa) - meteorologist for The Weather Channel. *Barbara Aronstein Black (Phi) - first woman to head an Ivy League law school. *Barbara Boxer (Phi) - U.S. Senator, 6th District, California. *Susan Davis (Delta Zeta) - U.S. Representative, 53rd District, California. *Jackie Goldberg (Delta Zeta) - California State Assembly, 45th District. *Ofira Navon (Psi) - Former First Lady of Israel. *Judith Rodin (Nu) - first female president of an Ivy League university. *Jan Schakowsky (Rho) - U.S. Congresswoman, 9th District, Illinois. *Susan Polis Schutz (Delta Sigma) - Poet, Creator of Blue Mountain greeting cards. ==References== reflist ==See also== *Pi Sigma Psi, former chapter at Dartmouth College. ==External links== *Delta Phi Epsilon Website National Panhellenic Conference
