The plot follows Rawlins as he has been hired to find a woman who is involved in a brewing political scandal. The book was adapted into a 1995 [[Devil in a Blue Dress (film)|film of the same name]], which starred [[Denzel Washington]] as Rawlins, and also featured [[Jennifer Beals]], [[Tom Sizemore]], [[Maury Chaykin]], and [[Don Cheadle]] as the unhinged "Mouse".
