It is situated 5 miles west of Market Weighton town centre and 4 miles south of Pocklington town centre. It forms part of the civil parish of Everingham and Harswell. It has two churches, both dedicated to St. Everilda, a 7th century saint who founded a convent here: St. Everilda's (Church of England) and Ss Mary & Everilda, Everingham, (Roman Catholic). There is only one other church in Britain dedicated to this saint, at Nether Poppleton, City of York. The Ham class minesweeper HMS Everingham was named after the village. The village once had four pubs, which were forced to close by Lady Everingham in the 17th century. She was disgusted that her carriage driver was drunk when he came to collect her and ordered these closures. EastRiding-geo-stub
