Fires is the second album by Jersey-born singer-songwriter Nerina Pallot. First released in April 2005 on her own independent record label, Idaho Records, Fires was met with much critical acclaim but did not gain commercial recognition.
After working as a support act for artists such as Sheryl Crow and Suzanne Vega, Pallot was signed up to 14th Floor Records, who were impressed with the audience response and after-show sales of her album. Thus, Fires was reissued in late April 2006 with revamped artwork and some slight remixes on some of Pallot's songs. The album entered at UK #41 and later, on the strength of the popular single Everybody's Gone to War, made it as far as #21.
To date, the album has been certified gold in the UK for sales of over 100,000, and has earned Pallot a nomination at the 2007 BRIT Awards for Best British Female.

Singles
The original release of the album album was preceded by a download-only single, 'Everybody's Gone To War'. The second single, 'Damascus', was released in June 2005, and a third, 'All Good People' (a Radio 2 single of the week) was released in September 2005, both of which missed the charts. A download only Acoustic version of Idaho was released to iTunes, which may have been an indication of what Pallot's 4th single was going to be. However the single, or further singles were never released. Pallot was soon signed to 14th Floor Records...
Coinciding with the re-release of Fires 'Everybody's Gone To War' was released as a full single on May 22nd 2006. The song charted on downloads alone in its first week, charting at #37. The song then jumped to #14 once the physical single was on sale & had a steady chart run, however never rising above its second week peak of #14. Many fans believed that the single was 'over promoted, and if the single had been released the week or two weeks before, it would have faired a lot better in the charts. A new version of 'Sophia' was then released on October 2nd 2006. After many delays (the original plan was to release the single on the 26th of August 2006, then in September) The new version sees a new beat added over the original album version while retaining most of the other features., although the ending was altered slightly. Many fans were split down the middle, to whether the song should have remained the same as the album version, or if it should have been left as an album only track. It entered the charts at #32, although not as commercially successful as Everybody's Gone To War it is viewed, both critically and with fans as being a superior song. It was officially confirmed that 'Learning To Breathe' was to be the third single from the album, the single was originally planned to be released on January 1 2007, but due to lack of promotion, it was postponed to the week later, and was released on pyshical format on January 8th 2007. It entered the charts at #70, the song did not chart on downloads the week before like many songs do, due to new chart rules. Due to the he lack of downloads, fans believe this hindered the position of the song, thus not showing its true popularity.
Other favourites from the album include 'Heart Attack' and the dark 'Idaho'.
