Flowers is the third album by Swedish pop music group, Ace of Base. It was released on July 14, 1998 in Europe, Asia, and Africa, and August 10 in the United Kingdom. An American version, titled Cruel Summer, was released on September 1, later that year. The American version contained remixes of several of the original songs, and one new track. Britain, Japan, and Australia received hybrid versions of the two albums, retaining the original title in Britain and Australia and being called Cruel Summer in Japan.
Sales and charts
The Flowers album spawned the massively successful single, "Life Is a Flower", the most heavily played radio single of 1998, and Top 10 hits "Cruel Summer" and "Always Have, Always Will". The corresponding U.S. album sold poorly, and was the last original Ace of Base album released there. Flowers is estimated to have sold more than three million copies worldwide.
The Flowers album received gold certifications in Sweden and Denmark, and was certified platinum in Switzerland. The album was a top ten hit in Denmark, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Sweden and Switzerland. Singles from the album were also highly successful, earning the band top ten positions in the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Italy, Russia, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and, oddly, Brazil, where the album was not even released.
