The median age was 34.3 years. Twenty-eight percent of the population were under 18 years and 11 percent were 65 years and older. For people reporting one race alone to the Census, 89 percent were White; 8 percent were Black or [[African American]]; less than 0.5 percent were [[Native Americans in the United States|Native American]] and [[Alaska]] Native; 1 percent were Asian; less than 0.5 percent were Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander, and 1 percent were Some other race. One percent reported Two or more races. Four percent of the people in Fort Wayne, IN MSA were Hispanic. Eighty-six percent of the people in Fort Wayne, IN MSA were White non-Hispanic. People of Hispanic origin may be of any race. ===Households and families=== In 2003 there were 196,000 households in Fort Wayne MSA (consisting of . The average household size was 2.57 people. Families made up 69 percent of the households in Fort Wayne MSA. This figure includes both married-couple families (51 percent) and other families (18 percent). Non-family households made up 31 percent of all households in the MSA. Most of the non-family households were people living alone, but some were composed of people living in households in which no one was related to the householder. In 2003, the Fort Wayne MSA had a total of 215,000 [[housing unit]]s, 8.7 percent of which were vacant. Of the total housing units, 72 percent were in single-unit structures, 22 percent were in multi-unit structures, and 5 percent were [[mobile home]]s.
