Harir is an Assyrian village and a sub-district located in the district of Soran, Iraq. Today, many homes are being built for Assyrians, by Sarkis Aghajan Mamendo, who are willing to move back to the villages. Both the village and the sub-district of Harir were established by displaced Assyrian families from the Nochiya Region. They moved to Harir, the village and the sub-district, because of the Assyrian genocide committed against Assyrian Christians within the Ottoman Empire. The village and sub-district of Harir is home to the famous Matran Family (family of Saint Mar Yosip Khnanishu X) which is from Nochiya.
