It is a natural constituent of honey and sugar cane and has a very natural sweet taste. It has been used as a sugar in Japan since 1985. It is particularly suitable as a non-cariogenic sucrose replacement and is favorable in products for diabetics and prediabetic dispositions.<ref>{{cite journal |author=Lina B, Jonker D, Kozianowski G |title=Isomaltulose (Palatinose): a review of biological and toxicological studies |journal=Food Chem. Unlike sucrose, isomaltulose is [[toothfriendly]] and digested much slower leading not only to a low glycemic response but as well to a prolonged glucose supply.{{Fact|date=February 2007}} Thus, isomaltulose is a slowly released carbohydrate that therefore provides a more sustained energy supply from food and drinks. An optimal energy supply is a topic of increasing importance in research and product development as this may play a role in health (particularly control of obesity) as well as for physical and mental performance. ==References== {{Reflist}} ==External links== * [http://www.palatinit.com/en/Food_Ingredients/Palatinose/ Palatinose product description] - Palatinit.com * [http://www.nutraingredients.com/news/ng.asp?n=81805&m=1NIED04&c=ctxjsjflucdkyxi Gadot launches low GI, tooth-friendly sweetener] - on December 4, 2007 * [http://www.palatinose.com/ Palatinose knowledge portal] - Palatinose.com [[Category:Disaccharides]] [[de:Isomaltulose]] [[ja:パラチノース]] [[he:איזומלטולוז]]]
