==Biography==
Cole was born to an [[African-American]] mother and an [[Italian-American]] father. Her mother's drug addiction led to her becoming a [[Foster care|foster child]] adopted by Yvonne Cole at 2 years old. She found out she was adopted at the age of 7. She did her first recordings with [[MC Hammer]] at the age of 12. Cole is widely known and appreciated in her home town of Oakland, California.
In 2004, Keyshia Cole attracted the attention of [[A&M Records]] executive [[Ron Fair]].<ref name=biography/> The following year, her [[Platinum]]-debut album ''[[The Way It Is (Keyshia Cole album)|The Way It Is]]'' was released, featuring the hit singles "I Changed My Mind", and "I Should Have Cheated", and "Love". The album debuted at #6 on the U.S. charts and sold 89,000 copies in the first week of release.
Her sophomore album, [[Just like You (Keyshia Cole album)|''Just like You'']], was released in 2007. In conjunction with her album release, [[Black Entertainment Television|BET]] began airing the second season of Cole's reality show "[[Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is]]" on October 30, 2007. The show premiered to record breaking ratings for [[BET]]. It is the top returning series premiere in BET history, as well as the number one original series premiere of the year. A reported 2.9 million viewers and 2.0 million households watched the season 2 finale.
