Kinn is an island and former municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. Kinn is known for the Kinn kyrkje (church), which probably dates from around year 1000, and the Kinnaspelet, a historical play which is performed every summer.
History
The municipality was created in 1837 as Kinn formannskapsdistrikt. Its size decreased as Florø was separated from the municipality in 1861, and Bremanger followed in 1866.
On 1 January 1923, Kinn was split in three, creating the new municipalities of Bru and Eikefjord. The split left Kinn with 2,508 inhabitants.
On 1 January 1964 a merger took place which reunited Kinn with Bru, Eikefjord, and Florø to form the new municipality Flora. Before the merger Kinn had a population of 3,567.
