Martin gained recognition in the 1970s as a [[pop music|pop]] artist and [[composer]]. He was given the [[nickname]] "Moon" because many of his songs had the word "moon" in the [[lyrics]]. He also scored two minor [[chart-topper|hits]] of his own with the song "Rolene" in 1979 and "X-Ray Vision" in 1982; the latter was an early [[MTV]] hit [[music video]].
