The [[Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics]] (NUTS) is a [[Country subdivision|subdivision]] system for statistical purposes for the whole [[European Union]] devised by Eurostat.
At NUTS:1 level, Hungary is subdivided into three parts. NUTS:2 level consists of seven [[regions of Hungary]], while at NUTS:3 level (the lowest) the subdivisions match up with the individual [[counties of Hungary]] plus the capital, [[Budapest]]. As of Jan. 1st, 2007. the LAU 1 level (formerly known as NUTS:4) consists of 168 sub-regions and the LAU 2 level (a.k.a. NUTS:5) is made up of 3152 localities (towns and villages).
