The '''Network Audio System''' ('''NAS''') is an [[open-source software|open-source]], [[network transparency|network-transparent]], [[client-server]] audio transport system. It can be described as the audio equivalent of the [[X Window System]]. NAS works on [[Unix]] and [[Microsoft Windows]] platforms. The project began in the early 1990s. The current maintainer is Jon Trulson. [[As of May 2008]], the latest stable version is 1.9.1, released on November 10, 2007.
