When the Númenóreans came under the influence of [[Sauron]], they cut down Nimloth as a sacrifice to [[Morgoth|Melkor]]. [[Isildur]] saved one of the fruits of the tree and planted it in [[Minas Tirith]], capital of [[Gondor]], on the very top tier.
