Hosts and stadia
The AFC decided at its annual meeting, that Bangladesh would host the opening ceremony and that Nepal would host the final unless Bangladesh makes it into the last two, in which case it would be held in Dhaka. The two stadia that will be used during this tournament are: the Bangabandhu Stadium (holds 36,000 people) in Dhaka and the MA Aziz Stadium (holds 20,000 people) in Chittagong. But later Bangladesh Army Stadium (holds 15,000 people) in Dhaka was also used to make-up the matches wasted for rain.
Teams
Some teams did not take part with their 'main' national squad, as noted below:
*India took their Under-20 team as preparation for the AFC Youth Championship they later hosted.
*Kyrgyzstan took part with a young team, drawn mostly from the youth squad which qualified for the AFC Youth Championship 2006.
