Founded in [[1866]], it is one of the oldest and most renowned museums focusing on [[anthropological]] material, and is particularly strong in [[New World]] and [[Mesoamerica]]n [[ethnography]] and [[archaeology]]. The Museum also houses an [[archive]] of over 500,000 images relating to the collection. The Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology shares a building with the [[Harvard Museum of Natural History]].
