The Physical Fitness Badge is intended to recognize those who have excelled in [[physical fitness]], which is one of the main areas of training for the [[United States military]]. The badge was first authorized by the Secretary of the Army in June [[1986]]. The first issuance was on [[October 1]], 1986. The Physical Fitness Badge is the only official United States Army badge, recognized by the [[Institute of Heraldry]], which cannot be worn on a dress military uniform.
