The so called "Violet-Whites" wished to preserve the then 72-year old traditions of the old club, which had been destroyed by the Red Bull takeover. On October 7, 2005, the "Violet-Whites" successfully registered the old club's original name "SV Austria Salzburg" and the old club emblem. An attempt to field a unified team with the football section of the Salzburg "PSV Schwarz-Weiß", who played in the 1. Salzburg "Landesliga", the fourth tier of Austrian football, came to nothing at the end of the season. Thus the Violet-Whites formed a completely new team which entered 2. Klasse Nord, the seventh tier of Austrian football for the 2006-07 season. The first match of the relaunched SV Austria Salzburg was played on July 29, 2006 against Lieferinger SV. SV Austria Salzburg won 6-0. The club then won the championship and was promoted to 1. Klasse Nord. On the 19.05.08 Austria Salzburg won promotion to the Austrian 5th division as champions of the 1. Erste Klasse Nord. They finished 11 points ahead of second placed Bergheim with only 3 rounds remaining. This ensured there promotion to the '2. Landesliga' of Salzburg (West). == Current squad == Fs start Fs mid Fs end === Under 23 === {| class="prettytable" | valign="top" | Goalkeeper * 1 Robert Rosenblattl Manager * Fritz Oberascher | valign="top" | Defender * 3 Christian Auer * 5 Volker Rechberger | valign="top" | Midfielder * 2 Haris Borozni * 6 Lukas Fritz * 7 Stefan Fischer * 8 Michael Bergschober * 10 Milan Ilic * 14 Tobias Lindbichler | valign="top" | Striker * 13 Gerold Schwaiger * 15 Christian Höller * 16 Karim Chrouda |} ==Club honours== * 1.
