Gitzen]] in [[Wellington, Florida]]. It consists of a 3 [[meter]] tall hand-pounded [[steel]] and [[bronze]] depiction of a [[mermaid]] with webbed hands and unusually large [[breast]]s. It is part of the village's public art program, which involves 21 artists loaning art work to be displayed in public places. Originally placed outside Wellington Community Center, it was moved to a new site outside a swimming pool after some complaints about the nudity of the statue. The artist later added [[nipple]]s to the sculpture's breasts. ==External links== * [http://www.ci.wellington.fl.us/news/news_art_in_public_places.htm Wellington village website] * [http://www.palmbeachpost.com/pbcwest/content/local_news/epaper/2005/11/10/w1b_mermaid_1110.html Palm Beach Post] * [http://www.banderasnews.com/0508/art-mermaid.htm Banderas News] * [http://www.progressiveu.org/110333-nipples-or-no-nipples-mermaid-not-wanted Discussion of initial controversy on ProgressiveU.org] {{DEFAULTSORT:Siren}} [[Category:Outdoor sculptures in Florida]] {{sculpture-stub}}
