While its name, meaning "three-headed", can describe its shape as seen from the valley of Bohinj, the mountain may have been named after the Slavic god Triglav, although this hypothesis remains disputed. Triglav's shape can also be seen in the Slovenian coat of arms, on the flag of Slovenia and on the Slovenian 50 Eurocent coin. At the top of the mountain stands the Aljažev stolp (Aljaž's Tower) which is a Slovenian landmark and an important symbol of the country. The mountain was first ascended on August 26 1778, by Luka Korošec, Matija Kos, Štefan Rožič and Lovrenc Willomitzer on Sigismund Zois's initiative. The Triglav area is also the origin of an old Slovenian legend of a chamois buck (steinbock, ibex) named Zlatorog ("Goldhorn"), which is used as a brand mark of Laško Brewery. A lengthy symphonic poem by the composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, adapted from the third act of his opera Mlada, bears the title “Night on Mount Triglav”, though the action is actually situated among the Polabian Slavs near the Elbe river, in today's Germany. == See also == * Mountains of Slovenia * Triglav National Park * Triglav Lakes Valley ==External links== Commons * Triglav on Hribi.net * Triglav on SummitPost * 360° Panoramic View from Triglav * Computer generated summit panoramas North South Index bg:Триглав_(Словения) bs:Triglav cs:Triglav cy:Triglav de:Triglav et:Triglav es:Triglav eo:Triglav fr:Triglav hr:Triglav (vrh) hu:Triglav it:Monte Tricorno ja:トリグラウ mk:Триглав nl:Triglav pl:Triglav pt:Monte Triglav ru:Триглав (гора) sl:Triglav fi:Triglav sv:Triglav
