Raison d'être

Initially an add-on to my Montérégie playground, I have come to realize that Northwestern Vermont and Upstate New York are cycling paradises whose Northern border can be reached after a 30 minutes drive from my home in Iberville (Southern Quebec). My first Vermont rides were inspired by John S. Freidin's book  20 Bicycle Tours in Vermont, still available in bookstores and on the Internet. Notwithstanding its qualities, this book did not quite meet my expectations. In particular, the number of tours in the Northwestern part of the state is small, the cartography does not show the adjacent roads, and dirt roads are ignored. The last point is important since if forces, at times, the cyclist to ride on heavy traffic roads (Route 15 along Pleasant Valley for instance) while alternative dirt or loose gravel backroads, frequently of very good quality, are almost always available.
