Mountain climbing Vauchers

Michel Vaucher and Yvette Vaucher from Geneva are both world class mountaineers. As mentioned in the paragraph below, they both got their start on the tiny Saleve near Geneva.

Salève

Dès les débuts de l'aventure citadine vers la haute-montagne, le Salève a été la grande école de varappe qui a fait des grimpeurs genevois parmi les alpinistes de premier ordre: Roch, Lambert, Vaucher et des femmes célèbres: Loulou Boulaz et Yvette Vaucher. Au Salève on a expérimenté sans cesse de nouveau matériel de montagne, comme la fameuse chaussure Tricouni du Genevois Félix-Valentin Genecand. Ref

Michel Vaucher, Suisse (1936-2008)

Member of the first expedition that climbed Dhaulagiri, Nepal in 1960. At 8,167m it is the 7th highest mountain in the world.

Dhauligiri was first climbed by a Swiss expedition led by Max Eiseln. The expedition used a light aircraft to fly expedition members and their equipment to the North Col. amongst the members was Kurt Diemburger, now a legendary mountaineer.
